Slow Dance

New stuff, Slow Dance, on the Web site. (I’m not finished with this series, but it’s taking me so long I decided to put up what I’ve done so far.)

  1. I am a fan of everything you do, full of unrestricted admiration for every one of your sets, but my greatest personal favourites have usually been the sculptural rather than the bird compositions (though they, too, are never less than superb).

This set, though, changes that: Slow dance is up there in my top choices list. WOnderful; I’m lost for words.

  2. I actually agree that the sculptural (or non-bird) pictures are more successful than my bird things. My favorite series, though I like them all, are probably Sky Stones, Equilateral, and Red Line. But the birds … there are so many things about them that I have not been able to figure out how to make happen. This series is the first that even begins to get into where I want to be. The previous are technically very satisfying — I’m happy enough with them as pictures, and I learned a lot from them, but the “where” was not right. Anyway, thank you for … noticing … that I’m getting closer.

  3. I agree with Felix – excellent. I was going to say that it reminded me of being at a college mixer, but then I noticed that many birds look sort of, well, angry; especially those with the red and orange beaks. Since all affect is evolutionarily derived, I guess only another red beak will find this attractive. On the other hand, I particularly like it when the birds check out the observer (camera). A little eerie, actually.

  4. Thanks Dr. C.

[Don't you wonder if the red/orange beaks have red/orange boogers?]

I know this shows a deficiency in me, but … curiously … no, I can;t say I’ve ever wondered that :-)
